Over the course of your SSL certificate's lifespan, it may be necessary for you to reissue it at some point. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The good news is that, outside of time, it probably won't cost you anything–most SSL certificates come with unlimited free reissuances for their entire lifespan. Below you will find instructions on how to reissue your active certificate(s) from your SSL providers control panel.
Before you re-issue your SSL Certificate, make sure that you have the appropriate CSR. For that, you may use either one of the following:
Note: If you generate a new CSR, make sure you save your Private key in a safe place. You will need it to install the re-validated certificate later.
Your certificates are managed through our CertPanel platform. If you have not yet linked your ComodoSSLStore account to CertPanel, check out our article Link Your Account To CertPanel.
If you have already linked to CertPanel, you can login to your dashboard by clicking the Login button in the top right corner of the screen.
Click Login to CertPanel and provide your account credentials.
Click "View All" under Total Orders.
Depending how long ago the order was purchased, you may need to adjust the date range of your orders list.
Locate the order for the certificate you would like to re-issue, and click the order number to view the detail. You can use the navigation tabs to filter orders by status (only Active certificates can be re-issued).
Scroll to the bottom of your order page and select Re-issue Certificate.
Select the appropriate method to verify domain control. Here's some additional details about each option:
E-mail Authentication– Selecting this option indicates that you will prove domain ownership via e-mail. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the following email addresses:
The email address listed on the whois for the domain in question
HTTP or HTTPS File Based Authentication – Selecting this option indicates that you will upload a .txt file based on the hash values of your CSR to the root folder of your website. The file will be provided to you once you submit the reissue and you will need to upload it to the following path:
CNAME Based Authentication – Selecting this options allows you to create a DNS record (CNAME) using the hash values provided by the Certificate Authority after the request is submitted.
Copy and paste your CSR into the area indicated below.
If you don't know the kind of server the certificate will be installed on, just select Other. Once you've selected, click "Continue."
You will be taken to another page to confirm the certificate details. If you selected e-mail based verification, you'll select the e-mail, and you'll confirm contact details and agree to the subscriber agreement.
Once everything is confirmed, select "Continue" and your reissue request will be submitted.
When you request a certificate to be re-issued, the issuing certificate authority must go through the validation process again. The good news is that they were already able to complete this process for your order previously, so re-validation typically goes very quickly and smoothly. However, if you are reissuing a type of certificate that requires a final verification call (OV or EV), the CA will need to perform that call again. Keep an ear out for that call, if you don't receive it within 24 hours, contact support.
After you complete the validation process and have received the reissued SSL Certificate, you can proceed to installing the new certificate.
